Oz and I did ALOT of babywearing in Sweden. It was so cold - ice, snow, blizzards etc (it was very dramatic lol!) - that I couldn't imagine putting him in a pushchair, even if we'd brought it. He needed my body heat to keep warm.

Anyway, whilst we were there, it suddenly became a lot easier carrying him. He felt so light. I don't know if it's my wrapping skills getting better and better, but at the time I was convinced he'd lost weight 8o Well, I weighed him this morning only to find he's actually gained a whole kilo since the last time I weighed him (about 6 weeks ago) 8o 8o

If you'd told me this time two years ago that I'd still be carrying him at two years old and 13 kilos I'd have laughed in your face!

There seem to be several "difficult" phases with BWing. IME and from what I can gather from talking to other mums, most people experience a phase when BW is hard (in terms of their own strength) when their babes are about 3 months, then again at 7-9 months to about a year (when walking starts and "other difficulties/challenges" arise ;) )

Later, in the second year I personally found challenging phases less common. Most likely to do with a steadier, more gradual weight gain on Oz's part.

I just wondered what other's experiences have been so far with BWing and their own core body strength?

p.s x-posted in "general" and TBW

Sounds very familar :-)

A local personal trainer here has started to advocate babywearing for his parent clients. He's declared it the best possible source of progressive weight training :-)

Helen, That is fantastic! My MIL is a physiotherapist (retired) and also has alot to say about the positive effects of babywearing on parents' personal fitness and core body strength. I actually getting her to write a paper on it. Any chance you could get some info from that personal trainer?? I'd love to know exactly what he has to say about it :D

Will see what I can do. I know that he is working on an article for H&F atm (he 'sold' someone on BW who turned out to be a friend of an editor there) 'cos I'm being expected to proofread it for him, lol.

I also know of an oestopath who thinks its the beezkneez, but can't get her to say ougt as she shifted herself to france last year :-( (It was her who 'told' me to get a sling back when dd1 was tiny and pointed out that a 'sensible' one was also the most affordable - t'was a wilkinet)
