Today I managed to put Charis on my back in the back cross carry all on my own! Seriously I feel a sense of achievement. But I have a few questions...
Should lo's arms be under the material or free because I'm worried she isn't secure when they're out.
how practial do you find the back carry for going out in the town shopping for example? Or is the hip carry better?
Where do you put your things? I usually carry charis on my hip in the ringslng and the changing bag on my back but if she's on my back then...?
how easy is it to put baby on & off when you're out and about?
thanks

Hi Shona,
Congratulations on backacarrying!!!! it is quite cool, isn't it?
I use BWCC with my Kai who is just over 9 months. When I'm home, I don't mind having his arms out but I feel better with arms in when we are out.
Having said that, I don't always succeed having his arms in. :(
If you are not sure about going out for shopping, why don't you start with short trips around the block?
It will give you a good idea how you feel about "ventureing" furthur.
For a changing bag, I tend to use a shoulder bag or a sling bag. When I'm going for shopping, I use a ganny trolly as well. ;)
HTH.

Yay! That's great. I LOVE the feeling of learning something new with babywearing.

I *try* to get Oz's arms in because it is way easier to carry for long periods of time like this, but sometimes (ok most of the time) he wants arms OUT! It's more secure with arms in and it just takes practise and negotiating with Oz.

I carried Oz in a BWCC around Paris for two days last week. I also had a ring sling and borrowed a pouch a bit, but the BWCC is the best for long periods of time. I was worried about wrapping in public, and about being able to wrap him quickly - he's very wilfull and wriggly, but again: practise and negotiation.

I use Oz's toddler back pack (the ladybird from Samsonite), but I'm looking for the perfect, long-handled tote, which IMO is the most comfy.

It's fairly easy for me now and I don't get too much stage fright any more: practise and negotiation!

you could have a courier-style bag, either put it on first or have a long enough strap to go round you both? Or a bum-bag, I saw a neat 1 yesterday, must go and google again...

I don't like dd to have her arms out either - she has recently started to try and do that.
I tie BWCC with a chest belt first so when doing that I make sure the wrap is nice and high over her shoulders and tight before doing the crosses and I make sure those are really high too - usually keeps her contained!
