Hi there,
I'm new to the list, but if anyone could give me some pointers & recommend a useful sling/carrier to carry my 6month old on my back and also let me know any opinions on portable high chairs, I'ld be very grateful.
thanks in advance...

I love my Calyx for back carries. It has an internal seat you strap the baby into before putting the carrier on, which makes getting the baby on singlehanded a piece of cake.
I tend to sit my baby in the Calyx on an armchair or sofa and squirm my arms into it, but I know someone clever enough to sling her baby in a Calyx on just like a rucksack.
It is also very comfortable and they come in a gorgeous choice of fabrics.
The one snag is you can only get them from the maker, who is in the USA, but mine was delivered very quickly despite having to be custom made as it was a petite model.
If you do get one, be careful about the sizing. I was tempted to get a standard model but I am so glad I didn't, as I have still had to shorten the straps quite a bit on the standard model despite being only an inch shorter than the minimum height recommended for the standard one.
They're available from www.mamagear.com
I shall watch the recommendations for a portable highchair with interest as it is something I am wondering about. The cloth ones you attach to a normal chair look quite a good idea, and very portable!

Heather

Hi and welcome to Sling Meet.
Portable high chair - the Totseat is very good, looks good and compact:

I made one for my little girl when she was 6 m but it was definitely not as pretty as theirs :D
I usually just tie my wrap around the chair to secure ds

I like my Calyx but also like Mei Teis for back carrys and they can double up as a portable highchair so go with the greener option and get a Mei Tei sling which will double up as a high chair .... I do have a portable fabric high chair too but can't find it at the mo' and completely forgotten who made it, I think it is an Australian company. I used it with DD1 but haven't used it all with DD2 as I have found there is only so long they like to be tied to a chair so it is going to have to be recycled!!!

Hi. I use a Patapum & an Ergo for back carries. We also have a frame backpack for DH for longer walks.
It took a long time for me to get something that worked so maybe come along to the Sling Show and try some on?

Depends on how portable you want the highchair to be. We are traveling around at the moment and using the HandySitt, which is great. But only really portable if you have a car.

DH does not like the 'totseat' and similar as he thinks that it outs too much pressure on ds's private parts - but a a friend found something like it that closes around the back of the chair and not over the top on ebay....

We have got the Chicco Quick Adjust Table Seat (http://www.johnlewis.com/230420138/Product.aspx) and think it's fantastic. It folds pretty flat and comes with a carry bag.
