View Full Version : Best sling to use for quick trips out
Hi
Looking for advice on what type of sling is best for nipping round the corner for a loaf of bread - the type of journey where you might look at a long wrap sling, that is usually your favourite, and think 'I'll spend more time tying it that I will wearing it', and so could do with a quicker alternative!
Thanks

Personally this was where I always reached for a ring sling or a pouch (or the tri cotti which i used to use one and pouch and other round the same way as extra support, lol)
Can shove the ring or pouch over to the back if ness and if child 'trustworthy' (which DS never was, hence finally getting into MTs after being spoilt by DD2 who would just sit there, lol)
Thanks Helen - do both of those just go over one shoulder? I should have said that I have a dodgy back, but I guess for short 'nips' out it wouldn't matter that much.
Sorry to be thick, but not sure I followed the tri-cotti bit..?!

Second the pouch or ring sling. I tend to keep either in both cars
Do you need any help choosing one??

Pouches are great for that, I carry one in my bag or the back pocket of my jeans in case Saoirse gets tired walking and they only take seconds to put on.
one tip tho...make sure you get one that fits properly and if it doesnt make sure you can change it for one that does.
Thanks for your help ladies.
Yes, wouldn't mind some help choosing. I've seen the ring slings around but don't know anything about pouches. Could do with something that won't break the bank, but also understand that a good fit is vital, so all advice very welcome.
Thanks :D

Can recomend www.brightsparkslings.co.uk. Laura does the most scrummy pouches at a resonable price! The fleece corries are fantastic.

Hils, go post on the yahoogroup that you'll be at such-and-such place on x day at y time and people will most likely come, or you can figure out a better time between you... be pro-active ;)
as for poppability but extra back support, what about a shorter wrap, tied for hip-cross, and left tied? Can drop it over 1 shoulder, twist once then lift it back over your head and down to your hip, before straightening a bit and popping child in?

I always thought I'd have problems with ring slings and pouches due to a dodgy back (slipped disk), but as long as they fit well, which is easier with a RS than a pouch, they are fine.

I can do 1-shoulder stuff as long as dd4 is either front or back, she's just too heavy to be on my hip now

It sounds like a well fitted pouch or ring sling would be best for you in those cases. I find a back carry with a pouch or ring sling is fine for quick trip too.

I use a Huggababy (padded ring sling) on dd (11m) while waiting at the school for her brothers and sister. Its really cosy and its fine for up to half an hour although i wouldnt want to wear it for too much longer!!, i just love my wraps too much... just not practical to put on outside the car if its raining or windy!!! (possibly amusing for passers by though!!!).
