For some reason I've been awake since 5am, and it's not Mila either, she's fast asleep!!!

I've been doing some surfing and found this Scandinavian site which does winter coats and covers plus more, for winter babywearing.

Looks pretty good! Not particularly funky, but extremely practical :)

much fear! as is apparent on the bbs face... perhaps its the shower. I was trying to find a link on TBW that had a raincoat with 2 hoods sticking out of it.. most cute (if slightly ridiculous). unfortunately was bookmarking late at night and didn't manage to do it properly.
however this seems to survive the Finnish winter

also, I got that Benetton cardi and unpicked the collar seam. Might have made it too wide as DS can get his arms out. Not much use against these cold August days

HAHAHAHAHA! Yeah, I'd forgotten about the man in the shower, must have blocked it out 8o!!

The second link at least has some brighter coloured coats :)

Mayelsmama, do you speak the language in the link you found? If so, what does it say underneath the photo of the woman skiing?

I'm definitely erring towards buying some sort of coat covering for long winter walks, as I've been thinking for a while now about it and wondering if North Face would consider bringing out a Mei Tai :)

But I'm stumped on what to do when on and off the tube? Has anyone any experience of this with back carries? So far, I've only done front carries to go out and I've always worn cardigans I can stretch over us both and take it off when we both get too hot. I'm not sure how easy it will be to put on these covers for back carries...

I wore my adapted cardigan with DS in a back carry today..First attempt at removing it was less than successful.

the people sitting next to me on the bus were most interested in in cuz they thought the cardigan was a babycarrier.

so I thought i'd whip it off to reveal my beautiful new Ball Baby Overall from Slingjax...Sadly the cardigan got caught (ONLY SLIGHTLY) on DS's head and he went wild.. flailing his arms and wailing..Can't THINK where he gets his Drama Queen tendencies.

People on the bus rushed to my aid and extricated DS.. but I think I lost points for babywearing :D and definitely no cool stars for me :D :D :D

so good luck on the tube

LOL!! I can just see that sort of thing happening to me!

Maybe some longer term Babywearers can come to our aid about winter wear.

I'll be interested to see your Adapted Cardigan, are you coming to the 7th September meet?

BTW, what's your name?

I used to just wear my coat with the mei-tai over the top. Erin would be on my back in her coat.

Great outdoors, if a little bulky, but a real pain going in and out of buildings or on and off the tube - I would just overheat, get all hot and bothered and bad tempered!

Last winter I bought a Mamajacket - http://www.mamaponcho.ch/ from Stephanie. Expensive, but it is good non-babywearing coat too.

I wanted something that looked more like a smart coat than an anorak. It took a little practice getting on and especially off, but it does work. Though Erin likes to be relatively uncovered and so rather than have her head through the slit in the insert for baby's head, we have the zip lower down and the insert just over her back.

I can't see the MamaJacket on that link, or is it the actual poncho you're talking about? Would really like to see a photo of the MamaJacket if it's different.

Thanks

That's a way too funny. This kind of thing happens to me all the time. i usually try to stay cool but just end up with sweating bucket loads on my face. Yikes!

The links to MamaJacket are the ones on the right hand side of the page - above the woman in dark coat, with long blonde hair.

It is different - I'll hve a look later and see if I can dig out a good photo of it - or get hubby to take some pics, if I can find where I've put the insert!
