View Full Version : Ergo vs wrap
Hi, I joined Sling Meet a few months ago when I was still pregnant and kept meaning to come to a meet, but never managed to go to one. Now the baby is 8 weeks old and I really want to buy something....I've got a Baby Bjorn that I used with the older ones, but I don't find it very supportive and it gives me a back ache. I've spent ages looking at different slings/carriers on the internet and I think I want either an Ergo or a wrap (made a make shift wrap out of an old sheet it it works quite well). Could anyone give any advice please? I would like something that will be comfortable and supportive for longer periods, e.g. day trip to the zoo. Thanks!!:)

Hi Lena
The board's been a bit quiet the last few days, I'm sorry noone's answered you.
It's quite hard to compare the two, for me, because I have no experience of Ergos, or any other SSC - it is a hole in my stash, I'm not sure why I haven't noticed this before.
I love wrapping and if you've had good success with an improvised wrap, then perhaps that is the way forward for you. OTOH, when we went away at Easter, a friend of mine was using an Ergo and it really did look very comfortable, for her and her baby. I was using a MT mostly, as I found it easier to get DS2 up and down in that and it was cooler than a wrap.
However in the winter, or for bedtime, I don't think much can beat a nice snuggly wrap.
I'm not sure that has helped at all - you might want to try posting in general and def try and get along to the next SM if you can, you should be able to try a wrap and a SSC to help you make your mind up.
HTH a bit, anyway,
Wendy. :-)
Thanks Wendy. Hmmm so you feel a wrap is quite hot, that's what my husband said...he said he wouldn't want to wear one as he'd get too hot. SO would a gauze wrap still be quite hot? Canlt decide whether it's a gauze wrap or an EllaRoo I'd want if I decide I want a wrap! It would be soo much easier if you could buy these things in the shops!
I've posted on the general board as well now.

I moved your post to General so hopefully you'll get more replies here :)
Even if you can't make it to a sling meet, maybe there is a baby wearer locally who might be able to show you their wraps or ergo?

Ive got an ergo but wouldnt really recommend it for a small baby. The newborn insert makes it bulky and less comfortable. The ergo is great though for older babies when you want to carry them on your back.

Hi Lena am I right in thinking you live Chelmsford? If I am then you could pop over to mine or meet me in town or something and I could show you my Calin Bleu and Gypsy Mama gauze wraps. I could also show you my Mei Tei so you could compare and try for comfort.
I'm away next week but anytime before or after that is fine.

Thanks Shirl, I've sent you an e-mail.
Lena
Thank you everyone! I have now ordered a Calin Bleu gauze wrap.
