Pregnancy Baby & You April 2007
Once you've found a baby sling that suits you, they can be indispendable. Choosing the right sling can be tricky, but there's now a great way to get advice from other parents. Two mums have created Sling Meet, a website linking parents who want to mee others have a chat, while getting tips on the best ways to carry their baby. You can try out other people’s carriers, and make new friends too. It's easy to be bewildered by all the options and you may struggle to get your sling to fit well at first. Anne Dhir, mum to Odaline, two and owner of Calin Bleu, a company specialising in baby wrap slings, says: "Sling meet offers parents in the UK and Ireland the opportunity to meet up wiht other baby-wearing parents, try slings before they buy and get a comfortable fit on their carrier". Use the Sling Meet Forum to find out where the nearest local meeting is being held.

Meet other mums and share tips
Congratulations if you’re expecting! But of the numerous things you’ll be buying for your new baby a sling probably rates high on the list. Often though, choosing the right sling for both you and baby can be tricky. Now there’s a great way to get advice on slings and other parenting things from a new website. Slingmeet was created by two London mums as a way of linking parents who want to meet others and have a chat whilst getting tips on the best ways to carry their baby. Available to parents in the UK and Ireland, the Slingmeet forum is divided into regions. Simply click on www.slingmeet.co.uk to find out more or call 0845 862 0073.

Sling Meet is an on-line forum where parents can find out where the neareast meeting is being held, or they can post for help from a sling user in their area. Parents meet at parks, museum or other children friendly places. Sling Meet was born when Anne Dhir, founder of Calin Bleu, a company specialising in wraparound baby slings and Stephanie, mother of three and distributor of Zolowear ring slings met up a few times with other baby wearing mums. The parents enjoyed learning from each other how to carry their children, tried each other slings' on and exchange tips on how to use the slings more comfortably. Meetings are open to all and now take place monthly in Glasgow.

I'm expecting my second baby in December and really want to sling him/her. I did the pushchair thing the first time and from what I've heard and read, slinging a baby makes lots of things so much easier so am really keen to baby-wear; this time!

I can't recommend baby-wearing enough. I only wish I had discovered it earlier than I did. (...)
A few things to remember: the closer your baby is slung to you, the lighter he will feel; you may get addicted and start a collection of slings; what works for one person may not work for another - I cannot stress this enough - so try a few out before you buy.
A great way to do this is through www.slingmeet.co.uk, which is a website dedicated to meeting other sling-wearers in your area to get information and try out their slings (as in the ones they own; it's not a shop).
